A Virtual Deal

With the increasing popularity of table games, casinos have shifted their focus away from slots, yet have maintained the excitement of slots with new electronic table games. This new table game perspective has revolutionized touch screen technology as well.

Vice President of Design and Development for DigiDeal, Dave Krise, explained, “With slot machines, we’re missing the social interaction. People are looking for that traditional table game experience, but some jurisdictions require electronic gaming only.

“So we have an electronic table game that still has all the appeal of a real table game with a live dealer, and is designed to meet the same regulatory requirements of slots,” he continued.

DigiDeal’s popular Digital Card System (DCS) offers virtual cards and real chips, and their new Digital Table System (DTS) is a network-capable system with large 12-inch touch screen displays. The DTS still features a live dealer and can be configured to use traditional chips or offer full, virtual play using on-screen virtual chips and player banking through its built-in bill validation and ticket printing technology. “Touch screens are just the next step for our new DTS table. They allow us to create an interactive environment—for virtually any game.”

Krise clarified this transformation. “Our new technology maintains the social interaction players want in table games with all the benefits of an electronic format.”

These new games allow for a broader market as well. “In an effort to compete with neighboring states, some jurisdictions are looking to electronic table games. While nearly all electronic table games incorporate touch screen technology, our system combines the technology with a live host for a more traditional table game experience. And we meet their regulatory requirements.”

Traditionally, in order to catch cheaters or advantage players, employees monitor table games, but as Krise noted, “It is not an exact science at all. Because our game is networked into a central server like slot machines, casinos and regulatory bodies can monitor money, percentages, plays, and game history.

“So in real time they could look at any table in any position and see what is going on. Our system eliminates cheating. There is no way to manipulate cards or chips; so really, it is good for the player in that they are getting the most fair game possible,” he added.

Touch screen technology’s influence on table game play has been quite positive. Krise commented, “The casino activity increases with more hands per hour, they have higher security at tables, and they eliminate hard costs of paper cards, chips, peeking devices, and extensive training; now, we’re actually going into markets that could never have table games.”

Touch screen technology has impacted casinos in a more innovative way. Krise stressed, “It was time to bring table games into the 21st century. Everything is going digital because of the control, security, and speed that casinos can get with a digital platform, and touch screens enable us to maintain live, 3-D interaction.”
